The Pieperrace has been held annually since 1985 in early April off the coast of Volendam, traditionally marking the start of the sailing season. This two-day regatta for traditional Dutch flat-bottom vessels honours the memory of the risky potato transports that Volendam fishermen carried out during the war years 1943-1945 with their kwakken from Friesland to Amsterdam hospitals. With a record of 79 participating ships in 2008, it has grown into a significant maritime spectacle.

- Sunday, April 6th 2025: Second race day, with arrival and conclusion around 3:00 PM in Volendam.
