The Klipperrace has been held annually since 1975 in October on the IJsselmeer near Enkhuizen. Founded by the Enkhuizer Watersportvereniging “Almere” and the Commissie Enkhuizer Klipperrace, it has evolved into one of the most spectacular and professional sailing regattas for traditional inland clippers. What began in 1975 with ten participants has grown to as many as 55 ships at its peak and is unofficially considered the Dutch championship for clipper sailing.
